I was in class a while back and one of my students said something pretty funny. I don’t remember what it was, but it was funny enough that I LOL-ed. That would be Laughed Out Loud, if you are my grandma who doesn’t go on the interwebs.
Anyway, I realized, sadly, that it had been some time that I actually laughed with my kids. Not just the laughing with them because something was slightly amusing. But a nice laugh that makes a bad day, just a little better.
So, maybe none of you have experienced this, but I have. Maybe too often than I will admit. I get caught up in the serious business of education, doing my job, getting my students to do their job of learning and moving though the standards that I forget.
- I forget to have fun (which probably means they aren’t ) (Not just the girls who wanna have fun)
- I forget they are kids and they can be fun and funny (My daughter just took two dead lizards to school…because…why not?)
- I forget that we can have fun in our lessons AND stay focused. (“This is why we can’t do fun things…because you guys can’t handle it.”)
We only have these kiddos for a short amount of time. Don’t forget to enjoy that time…not just counting down the days. Don’t get me wrong, I am looking forward to summer!
BUT, don’t forget to laugh with these kiddos.
